Sergei Loznitsa’s The Natural History of Destruction will be the opening film

Sergei Loznista's new documentary, in which he examines the perception of the phenomenon of mass destruction of the German civilian population in post-war European literature, will be the opening film of the first edition of the UBA International Film Festival, to be held from July 25 to 30. The screening will be the Argentine premiere of this brand new documentary by the renowned Ukrainian director, which is made exclusively from archive material.

Inspired by W.G. Sebald’s book based on WWII archive footage, the film puts forward the question: is it morally acceptable to use civilian population as a means of war? Is it possible to justify mass destruction for the sake of higher "moral" ideals? The question remains as relevant today as it was 80 years ago, and its urgency is tragically manifested in current political events.

During Sergei Loznitsa’s visit to FIC.UBA, he will receive an Honoris Causa Doctorate from the University of Buenos Aires, will present four feature films of his renowned work and will be one of the main speakers at the seminar "Cinema and Democracy".

The Natural History of Destruction will be screened on Tuesday, July 25 at 9:30 pm and on Sunday, July 30 at 4:00 pm. Both screenings will take place at Espacio INCAA - Cine Gaumont (Av. Rivadavia 1635, CABA). Tickets will be free of charge.
