FIC.UBA celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Trial of the Juntas

FIC.UBA celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Trial of the Juntas

As part of the commemoration of one of the most significant judicial processes in Argentine history, FIC.UBA will pay tribute to the judges who led the historic Trial of the Juntas. This event will take place at the University of Buenos Aires School of Law and will include a series of three films that explore this pivotal moment from different perspectives: Argentina, 1985 (2022) by Santiago Mitre, The Trial (2023) by Ulises de la Orden, and El Nüremberg argentino (2004) by Miguel Rodríguez Arias.

These special screenings offer a comprehensive cinematic look at the trial that marked a turning point in Argentine history—the first time in the world that leaders of a military dictatorship were tried for crimes against humanity by a civilian court. The selected films provide varied approaches, from dramatic reconstructions to documentary testimony, encouraging audiences to reflect on memory, justice, and democracy. During the screenings, attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from individuals who were involved in the making of these films.

With this special programme, FIC.UBA reaffirms its commitment in this third edition to cinema as a tool for memory and reflection, further establishing itself as a space for screenings, education, and dialogue that connects the university community with contemporary audiovisual culture, both locally and internationally.
