FIC.UBA focuses on Laura Casabé

The Laura Casabé Focus will be a necessary review of the filmography of the Argentine director and screenwriter who won the Grand Prize of the Argentine Official Competition at the last edition of BAFICI with her feature film La virgen de la tosquera (2025).

Casabé, who will present all the films in this section, studied Audiovisual Design at the University of Buenos Aires. He trained with Emir Kusturica and studied screenwriting at the New York Film Academy. He has made numerous short films—many of them internationally awarded—and has participated in festivals such as Sitges, FrightFest, SANFIC, BIFFF, Mar del Plata, and Guadalajara, among many others.

From his filmography, the titles which will be screened are La valija de Benavídez (2016), Los que vuelven (2019), Álbum de familia (2024) and La virgen de la tosquera -inspired by two stories by the Argentine writer Mariana Enríquez, which had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
