Panorama, the new section of the Festival

FIC.UBA presents a carefully curated selection of eight films by acclaimed directors, engaging with contemporary themes that will premiere for the first time in Argentina, as a new highlight of its program.

Among the highlights is Sound of Falling (2025) by Mascha Schilinski, winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The film follows the lives of four young people on a farm in northern Germany, where the passing of time and the weight of memory shape their existence. Also featured is Laguna (2025), directed by Sharunas Bartas, which premiered at Venice’s Giornate degli Autori. Set on Mexico’s Pacific coast, the film portrays a family’s grief in the aftermath of hurricanes, against a backdrop where nature and reconstruction intertwine.

The lineup is completed by I Only Rest in The Storm (2025) by Pedro Pinho, which examines neo-colonial relationships and tensions in a West African metropolis; Maya, Give Me a Title (2024), Michel Gondry’s first animated feature, where a father and daughter connect through bedtime stories; Sorry, Baby (2025), Eva Victor’s debut feature, which screened at Sundance and Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes; and The Mastermind (2025) by Kelly Reichardt, telling the story of an unemployed carpenter’s failed attempt to reinvent himself as an art thief in 1970s Massachusetts. Meanwhile, Lumière, The Adventure Continues! (2023) by Thierry Frémaux takes audiences on a journey to the origins of cinema through the restoration of over 100 previously unseen works by the Lumière brothers.

The program also pays tribute to the classic Furtivos (1975) by José Luis Borau, considered one of the greatest films in Spanish cinema, 50 years after its premiere and after being celebrated at the Malaga and San Sebastian festivals. A restored copy will be screened; the story that follows Ángel, a hunter who lives under the influence of his mother, until the arrival of Milagros alters the family dynamics.

This Panorama section represents an excellent opportunity to see acclaimed films from the world's major festivals that are being held at this year's FICUBA for the first time in theaters.
