A precise chronicler of the Balkan War and its terrible consequences, Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić takes a thematic turn in her filmography to focus on the life of a notable compatriot: Emerik Blum, a key figure in the young history of her country. Through varied testimonies and detailed archival material, she recounts the epic story of a political leader, philanthropist, and self-made entrepreneur: a man of Hungarian-Jewish origin who escaped from two concentration camps in Croatia during World War II, held ministerial positions during Marshal Tito’s Yugoslavia, served as mayor of Sarajevo, and founded Energoinvest, one of the largest engineering companies in Europe.
