Directed by Lila Pinell and presented in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes this year, the film follows a woman in her late twenties going through several simultaneous crises. Her boyfriend is in prison and has left her cocaine to sell; her grandmother has just died and left her a valuable ring; her half-sister is celebrating her bat mitzvah, and she does not know whether to attend. Shana comes from a Moroccan Jewish family and has a tense relationship with her mother. Obsessed with brands and appearances, she navigates grief, debt, and a controlling relationship with her partner from a distance. With remarkable precision, the film also portrays the circle of friends and neighbourhood where she lives, in the multicultural suburbs of Paris.
