El gran arco
L’Inconnu de la Grande Arche
Cinema & Cities: Paris
In 1982, François Mitterrand announces an international architecture competition to mark his presidency with an emblematic project: the Grande Arche de la Défense, aligned with the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. To everyone’s surprise, Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen wins the competition. Overnight, the 53-year-old, unknown in France, arrives in Paris and is thrust to the head of this monumental project. Although the architect intends to build the Grande Arche exactly as he envisioned it, his ideas soon collide with the complexity of reality and the whims of politics.
