Drawing on rare archival footage from Central Asia to the western borders of the former USSR, Imperium constructs a powerful cinematic fresco of the Soviet imperial imagination - revealing how images shaped the myth of empire and how that vision continues to cast its shadow over the present.
Sergei Loznitsa
Sergei Loznitsa graduated from the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow in 1997. His feature debut My Joy (2010) premiered in the main competition in Cannes. Films like In the Fog (2012), Donbass (2018), Babi Yar. Context (2021) and Mr. Landsbergis (2021) have been recognized with major awards.
