A Wen arrived in Spain as a child with his parents and learned to survive in a country whose language he did not speak, amid hardship and an identity divided between two worlds. His sister, director Xisi Sofia Ye Chen, observes him with tenderness as she seeks to dismantle the tough-guy image he has built for himself among his “blood brothers”. Between a Taoist monastery where he seeks redemption and the streets where exaggerated stories, karaoke, and silences heavy with depression still coexist, A Wen reveals the contradictions of a man suspended between Spain and China, Spanish and Chinese, toughness and tenderness. Without judging him, the camera offers an intimate portrait of an immigrant community usually relegated to the margins, restoring its place at the centre of the narrative.
