The arrival of a travelling theatre troupe in a quiet coastal town disturbs the seemingly tranquil lives of its inhabitants. Leading the troupe is Komajuro Arashi, a veteran actor who returns after twelve years to the town where Oyoshi, a former lover, lives with the son he has never been able to acknowledge as his own. Concealing his true identity, Komajuro attempts to reclaim, however briefly, the bond he was once forced to forsake. As the troupe continues its performances, the jealousy of Sumiko, Komajuro’s leading actress and partner, sets in motion a chain of events that threatens both the fragile harmony of the company and the lives of those bound together by the past.
